January 5, 2010

I am sitting here at my desk facing a new year. I am excited (even as I type surrounded by piles of papers) for all the year holds and a chance to follow a more excellent path and way. I feel a sense of recommitment to living the gospel of Jesus Christ and following the commandments. I am also excited to feel a little wind in my sails that prompts me to want to serve and love more. I had a wonderful experience Sunday when I decided to fast. During my fast, I prayed that I would rise up and become the woman God intended me to be.

I think we often live far below the greatness we are capable of and I have definitely spent 2009 living below the level of greatness God intends for me. I think I felt so battered by the ocean of my life. I felt that my head had been bashed against the rocks over and over. I would come up and grasp for air just in time for another current of health issues to pull me back under again. I started to settle into a pattern of mediocrity. I was settling for mediocre and treading water until I could find my feet on solid ground again. I am hopeful that 2010 is a year of greatness and that floundering in mediocrity and noncommittal patterns will only be a learning experience from a year now past. I know that Heavenly Father is answering my prayer as I look at each interaction I have and measure whether I took the "More Excellent Way." I am feeling inspired that by small course changes in thoughts and actions I can become the woman God intended me to be.

Forest is having a Star Wars party for his 4th birthday. We are doing a Jedi Training Academy for his friends. I am making them little Jedi tunics and belts. They will learn to use a light saber and keep the balloons off the floor. They will have galactic firing range practice (with our nerf guns). Each Padawan will receive a Jedi name. It should be a great time. Here is a picture of our little Luke Skywalker dressed in full Jedi garb.
